We are looking for a senior software development manager to lead a large cross-functional software development team. You’ll own Kindle file format, content quality, and new content reading experiences. You’ll lead your cross-functional teams chartered to innovate new content experiences, to automatically improve the quality of Kindle content, and to enable authors and publishers create, validate, and publish well-formatted defect-free Kindle books.
Brief On Work
As a Senior Software Development Manager, you will be a manager of managers and be responsible for inventing and enhancing Kindle content experience. You lead a highly competent cross-functional team of Software Development Managers (SDMs), Quality Assurance Managers (QAM), Software Development Engineers (SDEs), Software Development Engineers in Test (SDE-T), Quality Assurance Engineers (QAEs), Support Engineers (SEs), Application Engineers (AEs), and Quality Service Associate (QSA). As a leader, you play crucial role in bringing the best practices across all of these functional areas to ensure that the software we build and the technical processes that we implement are quantifiable with respect to quality and always deliver the best for our customers.
The successful candidate will be passionate about building a great organization, obsessed with customers, relentlessly raises the bar on the quality of what we deliver, is able to manage a fast-paced delivery schedule and drive a high-level strategy, as well as take a hands-on approach to implementing that strategy.

Key job responsibilities
- Responsible for establishing the strategy and direction for a large organization
- Drive strategic communication across senior leadership
- Set targets for engineering and operational excellence metrics. Drive best practices within teams and across own organization. Own the overall software development lifecycle
- Management and mentoring of key engineering and management personnel; Staffing and maintaining a best-of-class team
- Create long range plans, manage and execute against the plans and delivery commitments
- 10+ years of relevant engineering experience
- 5+ years of experience, managing engineers and managers
- Experience in partnering with product and program management teams
- Experience in leading and managing a team delivering solutions at scale
- Strong in Computer Science fundamentals and core areas like Problem Solving, Data Structures, Algorithms and Complexity Analysis
- Strong Analytical Abilities and Problem-Solving Skills
- Proficiency in, at least, one modern programming language such as C, C++, C#, or Java
- Experience in conception, design & delivery of cross platform software
- Experience in defining processes and establishing mechanisms that improves the efficiency of software development for customers and developers
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- You are extremely technical and have significant experience developing scalable applications and services, with a penchant for building elegant and maintainable systems that get the job done with minimal complexity.
- You have excellent interpersonal skills and enjoy working in a highly iterative, agile, and open team environment.
- You build the right product for your customers and pride yourself on delivering products on-time against deadlines.
- Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- A deep understanding of cross-functional multiple-team based software development.
- Experiences in working closely with remote teams
- A strong business and technical vision and the ability to translate these in business and technical approaches, and lead engineering efforts to meet aggressive timelines with optimal solutions
